My Story
A personal journey that started it all
Hello! My name is Lionel. I'm from Burundi in East Africa. When I was little, everyone spoke Kirundi. That's our local African language. Back then, I didn't think it was special. But when I moved to France for school, everything changed. I realized how important my culture and language really were. They connected me to my African roots and family traditions.
One day, I met a girl from Burundi. She grew up in another country. She felt shy because she couldn't speak Kirundi very well. This made me sad. I knew many kids from African families felt the same way. They lived far from Africa but wanted to connect with their heritage. I wanted to help them feel proud of where they came from.
When I became a dad, things got personal. I wanted my daughter to celebrate our African culture. I looked for children's books in Kirundi. I also searched for books in other African languages like Kinyarwanda and Swahili. But I couldn't find many good ones. That's when I decided to make books myself. I wanted kids everywhere to learn their mother tongue. No matter where they lived.
Now, I create African children's books for families around the world. These bilingual stories help kids learn new words. They bring families together. Most importantly, they help children connect with their cultural roots!
